FAQ / Info

A repository of answers about the site, so I can ignore most of the email with these questions.

Q: What's up with some galleries being tables of individual clickable links, and some being zipfiles?
A: I just thought I'd make a change to the page (1/09), with galleries older than 2 years served up in a zipfile, and galleries younger than that still with individual pics. With the increased file size jumping higher on the File Bandwidth part of my log reports it should also make it easier for me to see which galleries are still popular after their heyday and/or how many new people come to the site. While not everybody has broadband, the files are still relatively small, and download managers make it possible for you to "set and forget" if you want to leech multiple galleries.

Q: Why do some contact sheets not show the entire gallery?
A: The rule of thumb I created was that for galleries up to 50 images, 50 images will be on the CS file; galleries from 51-100 will have 75, and over 100 will have 100. Obviously galleries closer to the cutoff points will have better representation, but my first thought was to put an absolute cap of 50 for everything, just to keep the CS sizes similar. (It's not like it'll take you more than that to decide if you want the file)

Q: Do I have anything against dojinshi or fanart, since I won't include them on the site?
A: Not really, and I've seen good and bad samples of that stuff. But there are already plenty of those websites on the Net, and I want to offer something that appears to be fairly rare- with the added bonus of the fact that you'll *know* you can rent/buy/download said anime/fansub and find that sweet pic of 'that blue-haired chick with the huuuuge...tracts of land'. If you want the other stuff, do a web search or visit some of the sites on my Links page.

Q: Why are there no caps from hardcore anime like La Blue Girl or Cool Devices?
A: The main reason is that webspace for the original site (NERV) was provided for free by an old acquaintance of mine as long as it was kept unoffensive. I guess it's habit now, even after I've abandoned my original focus of Ranma 1/2. Also, this gallery would be unmanageable (time, bandwidth, cost, etc) if I expanded to include all that extra material.

Q: Why doesn't 'Anime X' appear in the Gallery or on the list of anime you plan on adding?
A: Probably for one of two reasons: I've seen it but forgotten it had ecchi bits, or I haven't seen it. See next Q for solution.

Q: This is the best site of its kind I've ever seen! How can I be a part of such awe-inspiring greatness?
A: Several ways come to mind, and they don't involve sending me heaps of cash.

First, alert me to (non-hardcore) anime which has ecchi bits in it but isn't listed anywhere on the site, so I can correct that deficiency (Please include DVD/episode names so I'm not renting/buying 4 DVDs before I find what you're talking about). Fansubs have lower priority than commercially released/easily available series. If you have screencapping software you're more than welcome to do it yourself and send them to me- your name will go on the Credits page either with your preferred net handle or Anonymous.

If you've got some ecchi wit in you, you can join the ranks of those visitors who supply Ecchi Edits for everyone else to enjoy. See the Edits section for more info.

You can send me an email saying "Love the site! Keep up the good work!" Or send me a postcard when you're rich and famous.

Q: When/how often do you update?
A: I've been doing updates on the first of the month for a few years now, but you can join the Update List that's mentioned on the Updates page and you'll automatically be notified of an update going up- unless you turn off your email options. (Stupid, but I've actually noticed some users doing it.)

Q: How do I make screencaps?
A: Go here for a page listing several methods.

Q: I've got a series I want to send you. How do you want this stuff?
A:

Format: My preferred file format is sequentially numbered jpg files, with an extra number to indicate DVD breaks or episode number (for fansubs). If you're capping from a software DVD player and have many bmp files, download Ifranview- freeware with a batch command that will convert all of them to jpg in one pass (use 85-90% quality, please). For changing the default name from your capping software, use the freeware 1-4a Rename. Understand that I probably won't use everything you send.

Transfer.

If you have a free homepage account (Tripod, Geocities, etc) somewhere, or web space that comes with your ISP and some basic HTML knowledge, you can just slap them all on a page and give me the URL, and I'll let you know when I've snagged them.

Post them to a thread in the 'Suggestions and Donations' forum. There are no IMG attachments over there, so you must have them stored elsewhere on the net first. (This is essentially Option #1)

Email them to me using "donations AT anime-fanservice DOT org". Zip file size limited to about 7MB due to Inbox constraints.

Any online file-sharing service that you might already belong to (X-Drive, yousendit, etc), is also fine if it can provide a link to non-members.

Extra stuff: Please include the anime credits as they appear on the credits page: creator(s), producer(s), and American distributor.

Q: How are the images numbered?
A: It wasn't too organized in the beginning, with some series being numbered by episode ([series][episode]-[###]), and some with a simple sequence of [series]-[###], and most fansubs will use one of these number systems. I try my best nowadays to incorporate the Region 1 DVD number into a filename if a US-released series has more than one DVD ([series][DVD#]-[###]), so you can at least home in on that. For fansubs I use the first method listed.
